Kirkwood Public Library is proud to announce the receipt of three grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. These grants provide funding for Summer Reading activities, promoting early literacy, and improving the Kirkwood Public Library’s wireless technology.

Kirkwood Public Library’s Technology Mini Grant consists of an award of $5,236 for the replacement of the library's wireless network. This project will provide the updated hardware and software in order to create reliable wireless internet connections for library patrons. This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Kirkwood Public Library’s Summer Reading Grant consists of an award of $8,050 to support summer reading activities for children. The project focuses on connecting families through a shared reading experience and will provide funding for local authors, library events for families and support for summer outreach services into the community. This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Kirkwood Public Library’s early literacy grant consists of an award of $7,797 from the Missouri State Library as part of the Racing to Read Grant program. This project will focus on promoting early literacy to children from birth to age five in the library and Kirkwood community. Funds received from the grant will be used to create circulating early literacy kits geared to 0-2 year olds that will contain board books, a parenting book, and a developmentally appropriate toy. The library will create circulating iPad kits loaded with early literacy applications that promote reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing that families can utilize at home. The grant will fund two Family Early Literacy nights, and the purchase of books to give to children that attend. The library will also provide children at Educare YWCA Head Start Learning Center at Meacham Park, and the Educare Head Start classroom at Robinson Elementary with books to keep when we bring them outreach story times. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
