Kirkwood Public Library will feature the art of Susan Zimmerman from February 1 through March 15. The artist’s work will be showcased in the Library’s art gallery for that time, and interested parties may meet the artist herself at a reception Friday, March 6 from 5:30-6:30pm.
Susan Zimmerman is a local artist who has shown her work locally for a number of years.  Organic best describes her hand-built porcelain vessels whose shapes evoke enigmatic narratives about nature. Ms. Zimmerman photographs her vessels to expose the microcosm within the pieces by infusing sections with sun and shadow. She is also a freelance magazine writer with numerous published articles on travel, history and nature.
“Light through the Window” is her collection of photographs of free-form, hand-built ceramic vessels that explores two contrasting media. The photos capture different stages of the life of a ceramic vessel, from greenware to bisque, and the unique finishes of smoke-fire and horse-hair fire. Figure and landscape influence these completely un-manipulated photographs, utilizing only the sun to highlight atmosphere and form through shadow and light.
