What is Homebound? The Kirkwood Public Library provides free home delivery of library materials to individuals who may have the following limitations:
- Short- or long-term illness
- Physical impairment
- Visual disability
- Other restrictive situations
To be eligible you must live in the City of Kirkwood and hold a current Kirkwood Public Library card. This program is open to adults and children. Materials are delivered to residents of private homes, skilled nursing centers, hospitals or group homes. How do I sign up? You or your caregiver should print and complete the Homebound Delivery Application and bring it to the Homebound Service coordinator at the library. If you are unable to come in, phone the coordinator at 314-821-5770, extension 20. She will ask you for the same information on the application and answer any questions.
How will the library materials be delivered? A volunteer from the Friends of the Library is assigned to each Homebound cardholder and will deliver materials every six weeks. The volunteer will talk with you about authors, books, music and movies and will then select materials you request. These items are checked out to you and delivered by the volunteer. Your due materials will be picked up at that time. No fines are charged for overdue materials but charges are assessed if an item is lost or damaged.
What materials are available? You may borrow materials in the collection of the Kirkwood Public Library. Our collection includes hardcover and paperback books, large print books, audiobooks on cassettes or CD's, videocassettes or DVD's and music on compact discs. For further suggestions or readers' advisory, phone the Homebound Service coordinator at 314-821-5770, extension 1012.
